There are many good things that hail from Norway. Take koselig for example, a small word that makes everything cozy, albeit the direct translation can’t even encompass all the coziness this word possesses.

And then there is something even better.

Påskevær. Easter weather.

This is what it is, in all of its simplicity. Sunshine from up above. Sparkling snow down below. Ski trips, sun tans, factor thirty that’s almost not enough, sausages grilled on the fire, lunch bags devoured on the side of the mountain and cold beers in front of the fire-place.

We enjoyed our dose of påskevær with the family in the Rondane National Park, Norway’s oldest national park which is home to ten over 2000m peaks. Those peaks we left for others to conquer while we packed the little ones in the sledges and headed to Rondvassbu, a mountain cabin with three course meals and beautiful views for couple of nights of påskekos. Another Norwegian term that could maybe be the greatest of them all combining påske, sunny Easter holidays that often last a week and a bit here in Norway, and the aforementioned koselig, cozy.

Still, it beats me why the Norwegians didn’t come up with the term sommervær – summer weather instead. That would’ve guaranteed three months of sunshine a year instead of just five days!

I hope the sun wasn’t only shining in Norway this Easter, we are slowly adjusting back to the normal schedule after the long holidays in the late winter sun!
